Little Me, You Can Rest Now

Many of us were asked to be strong far too early. This poem is for the inner child in you—who became the light, the helper, the brave one.

— a poem for the girl who carried too much, too soon

Little me, I see you now, Your small hands holding up the sky somehow.

Nine years old with ancient grace, Brave little heart in a shifting place.

You were the wisdom in the room, A voice of light amid the gloom. You said the words your mother needed, Though inside, your own soul pleaded.

You mothered when you needed mothering, Held others while your own wounds were smothering. You showed your sister how to wash her face, But who showed you how to feel safe?

You stepped into shoes never meant to fit, Offered love with every bit Of strength you had left to spare— But who was there to meet you there?

Sweet girl, I see your sacred fight, How you became everyone's light. But child of mine, that time is done— You're safe now, little one.

You don’t have to be the strong one anymore. You don’t have to hold the broken door. You can drop the weight you learned to bear— I’m here now. I’ll always care.

You have permission to be wild, To laugh, to cry, to be a child. You have permission to say “no more,” To stop being what others adore.

You are worthy of being seen, Not as caretaker or in-between. But as the light you’ve always been— Untouched by shame, unshaped by sin.

I love you for the girl you are, The one who healed without a scar. And I love you for the things you missed, The comfort, the hugs, the gentle kiss.

So come and rest, my little dove, Beneath the wings of deepest love. You’re not alone. You never were— You’re free to feel, to play, to purr.

You gave so much, and now receive: A life that lets your heart believe. That joy is yours, and peace is too—

Little me, I’m here for you.

"I wrote this after reconnecting with a younger version of myself—one who had to grow up fast. I now understand that honoring her is part of my healing. Maybe you’ll see your little self in these lines too."

If this poem speaks to you, I invite you to pause and check in with your own inner child. What does she need today?
